Presenting fantastic ode to the the Art Deco era with this piece of brutalist and stylised art-deco studio ceramic.
There is much to appreciate with this work of art but I'll begin with the interior decor of the dish, which is almost like an abstract eclipse of the sun.
The decor at the center of the dish is a coarsely textured deep and matte charcoal, with mild peaks in the glaze. Encircling the charcoal center is a loosely applied ring of glossy white foam lava glaze. Beyond the ring of white foam lava glaze is a band of golden rod and honey yellow gloss glaze which diffuses into the outer ring and rim of the deeper tones of a gloss glaze of ginger, squash, amber orange tones.
The exterior of the dish uses the same tones of orange, yellow, white and charcoal in a gloss glaze, in an ombre effect - beginning with the deeper orange tones. The band of gloss glaze is the canvas for the deeply carved art deco influenced geometric design. The lower half of the dish bears a semi-matte glaze that is silky smooth with a colour palette that resembles deep blue-greys of aged bronze.
Overall, a stunning piece which would suit a room inspired by themes of Art Deco, Modernist or even Industrial decor.
