THE ITEM

This superbly crafted and charming set of Modernist figurines is the design of Walter Bosse (b. 1904 - d. 1979 Austrian ceramics artist and designer) for Karlsruher Majolika Ceramics manufactory.

Each piece has been hand painted in the pale blue, Craquelure 'crackle' glaze that has been applied with great precision to reveal the touches of defining red clay.

This set would make excellent collection additions for appreciators of Mid Century and Modernist design.

A BIT OF HISTORY

Karlsruher was founded by Hans Thomas in January 1901 after the grand duke of Baden, Friedrich I, gave consent for the construction of a workshop in the Hoffstrasse in Karlsruhe. Its full name is Majolika Manufaktur Karlsruhe. Walter Bosse (b. 1904 - d. 1979) was an Austrian ceramics artist and designer. Bosse's works are highly collectable, found in many collections throughout the world and in numerous museums such as Kitzbühel, Scheibbs Ceramic Museum and the State Museum of Baden.
