This piece is a stunning handblown work of Chalcedony art glass.
Chalcedony glass is a type of Venetian glass that imitates the natural stone chalcedony. An inhomogeneous glass, the production of this type of glass goes back as far as the 1500s.
This particular work is multi-layered; the innermost layer is a stratum effect, with a swirling striped pattern of aubergine, yellow and indigo. Overlaying the striped pattern is a veil of green, following the swirl at the rim of the vase but broadening outwards, with an rippling effect similar to the reflection of light on the surface of the sea.
Excellent, no chips, cracks or scratches. There are movement marks on the underside of the vase that is commensurable with age. There is very minor pitting on the glass surface from the production process, please refer to photos as part of the condition report.
