This superb work of Modernist design was produced by Karlsruhe Majolika and is also one of the last objects designed by Friedgard Glatzle in 1978.
This piece is simple in form but divinely detailed in the glaze. The base glaze is a smoothed shade of matte Ebony black upon which is the scattering of glossy, rich spots of Walnut Burr brown glaze. The gloss glaze spots are marbled and will appear and disappear depending on the angle of light falling onto the surface of the vase.
CONDITION
Excellent. No chips, cracks, or repairs. There is light use wear that is in the minor crazing of the glossy glaze spots and a few movement marks on the underside of the vase's base. Wear is commensurable with the age of the piece, please refer to all photos as they form part of the condition report. The base is marked with the Karlsruhe Majolika symbol, the crown of Baden, and the model number '9004'.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Karlsruhe was founded by Hans Thomas in January 1901 after the grand duke of Baden, Friedrich I, gave consent for the construction of a workshop in the Hoffstrasse in Karlsruhe. Its full name is Majolika Manufaktur Karlsruhe.
Karlsruhe would become known for producing high-quality, studio art ceramics. One of their main designers through the 1950s to 1970s was Friedegart Glatzle, who was at Karlsruhe from 1951 until 1980 and created many of their well-known designs. Karlsruhe employed leading designers and artists to design their items and to this day, the company provides artists with studio space and commissions works. Today, the manufactory is host to a number of workshops onsite as well as a museum dedicated to the artists and ceramists who have created works for them.
