THE ITEM
This delicious work of 1970s Modern ceramic in Pop Art colours is by Scheurich Keramik.

The form is a twin-tiered bottle with both Modernist and Atomic design influences in the overall shape. The glaze decor is a semi-matte Chartreuse green with an overlay of gloss Raspberry magenta pink that is separated by a flowing band of dark Espresso brown-black. The vase is finished on the interior with a gloss dark chocolate brown.

This piece makes an elegant addition to any lava or drip glaze collection and would suit a room with Vintage, Mid Century or Modernist theme inspired decor.

CONDITION
Very Good. No cracks or repairs. There is negligible light use wear that is mentioned for completeness. Use wear is predominantly in the form of movement marks on the underside of the base, a light flake to the underside of the base that is not visible when the vase is upright and mild crazing all over that is commensurate with the age of the piece. Please refer to photos as they form part of the condition report. The underside is marked with 'W GERMANY' and '267-25', representing the shape number and height.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Scheurich was founded in 1923 and started off selling china, porcelain and glass wholesale. It wasn't until the 1950's that Scheurich started to produce ceramics. In the 1960s the Fat Lava era begins with the thick textured drip glazes and bubbling crater effect glazes giving the fat lava effect. Until the 80's Scheurich was the largest West Germany Ceramic Manufacturer. Scheurich is also known for its sought after large floor vases.

The embossed 5 digits on the bottoms of the vases indicate the shape and size. This piece, for example, the digits are 267-25 the '267' represents the shape while the '25' indicates that the vase is 25 cm tall. Scheurich still produces ceramics today.
