THE ITEM
Picture the moments of when someone take a plunge into a deep and warm turquoise-teal tropical ocean and then imagine the underwater view in seeing the energetic rush of bubbles racing towards the surface as a school of fish might ...

This is the best description I have to describe the 'Florida' decor embedded within the glass, and indeed the heavy glass body of this pitcher vase was crafted with the 'Luftblaseneinschmelzungen' or 'melted bubbles' technique all over its body.

The bubbles are not all perfectly circular, some are elongated and mostly gather together, travelling together along the same path and it is this moment of motion which is suspended in glass. As you might expect, when sunlight shines through the glass, a beautiful series of refractions are created.

A mesmerising piece of mid-century design with enough presence to command attention if displayed on its own or would be just as happy to be part of a collection with similar decor properties.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Schott: In November of 1872, sheet glass was manufactured for the first time in a new glassworks founded by Anton Mueller, in the years that followed the glassworks would survive its acquisition in the late 20's by Schott AG, two world wars and economic turmoil, where many other glassworks wouldn't.

Zweisel introduced a colour glass plant in 1953 which began manufacturing crystal glass and continue its success. In 2007 the Zwiesel Kristallglas AG was among the hundred winners of a competition for innovation, the "Top 100" and today, the enterprise employs over 700 workers.

The Florida series was designed by Heinrich Löffelhardt (1901 - 1979) for Zweisel and was manufactured during the 1960s.
