This edgy-chic and sophisticated work of Modernist Op Art is by the manufactory Krautheim of Selb Bavaria, Germany.

The elegantly shaped cylinder form features two inwardly curved panels that give prominence to the tightly woven and raised-relief pattern décor. The relief pattern is beautifully painted in a rare antique bronze effect, interwoven with tones of Sage green and dark-toned lacquering, giving the overall piece its nod to Brutalist design.

The combination of the juxtaposing gloss glazed porcelain elements and the bronzed, textured décor makes this piece tactile and striking.

Their work was original began as porcelain painters, purchasing blank porcelain to decorate but from 1912, they began to make their own porcelain. After Christoph's death in 1933, the firm was taken over by his son Richard. The last owner was Georg Krautheim and the factory closed in 1977.
