THE ITEM
A beautiful piece in excellent condition by the renowned Swedish glass artist Bertil Vallien, whose pieces of art have only become more collectable over the years with pieces from his 'Head' range going for up to $20,000 at auction. This piece from the Satellites series however, is much more affordable for art glass fans.

Made in the 80's for Kosta Boda, this bears its original 'Artist's Choice' sticker. The base is a vibrant white with hint of blue iridescence, inlaid with various coloured pieces of glass and a rectangular patch of bronze coloured glass. The sloping angular shoulders leads to a clear glass neck ending in a flattened top. The front and back are not identically patterned.

There is an applied ring of orange coloured glass around the neck approximately one-third of the way up. The centre of the base is inscribed " Kosta Boda B Vallien 7080107" and it has a clear Kosta Boda Studio sticker towards the base.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Bertil Vallien was born in 1938, in the small suburb of Sollentuna, to the north of Stockholm and was only fifteen when he left home, drawn by the allure of the big city. After a series of occasional jobs, as a window-dresser at one of the main department stores in Stockholm, and as an apprentice in his father's decorating firm, Bertil decided to become an artist. He was accepted for a 2-year foundation course at the National College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack), 1955. He continued his training in the Ceramics Department, under the guidance of Stig Lindberg - one of Sweden's foremost designers of ceramic art. It would be 1963 before Vallien would begin his exploration into the world of glass at the Åfors factory, drawn by the invitation from the Director at the time.
