THE ITEM

Presenting a beautifully formed and glazed studio pottery piece by ceramist Ingeborg Zenker (b. 1926 - d. 2010) of Atelier Zenker & Karthausen Keramik pottery.

Zenker was a student of Richard Uhlemeyer (1900 - 1954), craftsman and president of the Central Association of German crafts (ZDH). During her time as a journeyman, she worked at various ceramics companies, including Sibylle Karrenberg-Dresler. In 1963, she founded a studio with Gerburg Karthausen, which existed until her death. Zenker's works can be found in numerous German museum (Düsseldorf, Frechen, Fredelsloh, Munich, Berlin)

This particular piece is presented in the UFO form that was hugely popular in the 1970s. The decor is a very tactile blend of a semi-crystalline glaze in earth-toned red, green and brown and a stone coloured foam glaze.

CONDITION

Excellent. No chips, scratches or repairs. There is mild crazing that is commensurate with the age of the piece - please refer to photos as part of the condition report. The underside of the base is marked with Zenker and Karthausen's 'ZK' motif, Zenker's 'Z' inscription and '71'.
