THE ITEM

This beautiful work of Modernist design is by Fritz Heidenreich (b. 1895 - d. 1966) ceramist and sculptor. Heidenreich designed this piece as an orchid vase in the early1950s as part of his collaboration with Rosenthal.

The mid-century Modernist design influence of emphasised form is very much evident in the accentuated curves throughout this piece. This stylish work would suit a room with Minimalist, Modernist or Retro decor themes.

A BIT OF HISTORY

Fritz Heidenreich (b. 1895 - d. 1966)

"Fritz Heidenreich was a ceramist and sculptor. He was a Rosenthal employee from 1919 to 1960, however, from 1946 onwards he became the head of the art department in Selb. His artistic activities did not merely end with sculpting wildlife or birds in porcelain - he also tried to find contemporary ways of expressing his sense of forms. The most excellent proof of his works for Rosenthal may be the group of fish 'Scalare' and also the legendary 'Orchid Vase' which was dubbed the 'Pregnant Luise'. Awards: 'Scalare' - Grand Prix at the World Exhibition, Paris (1937)."
