THE ITEM

Presenting this chic work of Modernist design by renowned porcelain and ceramics manufactory Rosenthal.

The Op Art decor is matte, very tactile and named 'Queensberry Marble'. The popularity of the Queensberry Marble decor subsequently led to a variation of the decor in blue and pink, and was incorporated into further designs in porcelain and ceramic by designers such as Uta Feyl, Lord David Queensberry and Rosemunde Nairac.

The rounded-angular and sculpted form of the vase design provides an excellent canvas and compliment to the decor.

A BIT OF HISTORY

Rosenthal (1879 - present)
Rosenthal was originally founded by Philipp Rosenthal in 1879 who had moved his porcelain painting skills from Werl (to Selb in Bavaria. The company grew from strength to strength over the years with original pieces designed by artists and in the 20th century, infamous artists who contributed their creative design included as Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol, Wilhelm Wagenfeld and Walter Gropius.

The first Rosenthal Studio Line House was established in 1960, Nuremberg, specialising in design oriented crockery art objects made of ceramic, porcelain and glass. By 1997, Rosenthal was the market leader for high-quality porcelain and glassware in Germany and was the world market leader in conjunction with Waterford Wedgwood.

Sadly, in 2008, the Waterford Wedgwood Group would divest their Rosenthal shares, this would be followed by the subsequent collapse of Waterford Wedgwood and the company filed for insolvency in January 2009. Today, Rosenthal operates as an independent company and is part of Sambonet Paderno Industrie.
